89 firebird vats problem?
ive got a problem i bought my first car in february 00 and it a 89 2.8L 5 speed firebird paid 735 dollars for it and its a good car but it needed body work its black and maui blue anyways when i bought it it had a swithch under the steering column that controls the starter only.you still have to use the vats key to turn ignition on or it wont start, but if you use the key and turn it to start the car the ignition comes on and the car wont start.the switch under the column has a wire from the positive side of the battery that goes to the switch ,and then thers a wire that goes from the switch to the starter solenoid.what i want to know is how do i get the car to start with the key and not the switch

If it was a VATS problem, the car wouldn't start just by using a "starter switch".
Check out http://sethirdgen.org/vats.htm to understand PassKey a little more. But passkey will kill the starter AND the fuel injectors, so you may have somthing like a clutch switch gone bad, or ignition switch, and so on. If you turn the key to "on" the "Security" light should come on for two seconds and go out. If it does go out after two seconds, PassKey is NOT your problem, and you will need a test light or Multimeter to trace down your problem.
