Need help with EST

What would happen with the EST undone?
I have a 88 MPFI 2.8 V6 and I just rebuilt it and it would bog on takeoff badly, but when I unplugged the EST it runs fine.I set the timming with it unplugged and with it plugged in.with it unplugged i set timmimg then plugged the EST back in and the Timming would go haywire.I set timming with plugged in and it would stay put.It would bog and hiccup and miss and all the works,I unplugged the EST and it ran perfect.

Unplugging the bypass wire, or the entire 4 wire connector going to the distributor makes the module in the distributor the timing controller. Normally, after the engine is started, timing control is turned over to the ECM.

You would not be taking advantage of the correct spark curve, that is programed into the computer, if the computer is not allowed to control the distributor.
