Can a bad alternator make system noise?

I've got a crappy remanufactured Bosch alternator in my bird. Periodically, my sound system will emit a squealing/buzzing noise that increases in pitch with RPM's. I've managed to deduce that it is most likely the alternator, and now I'm looking into a replacement. Firstly, though, I want to know if a rebuild kit will cure my problems. I've also noticed that the bearings seem to be dry?? in the things, as it doesn't rotate too well...Thanks for the thoughts.

Could be.....Or, if you have a head unit & remote amplifier, it could be a ground loop between the two units. Read the "Whine" and "grounding a amp" posts under the Car Audio board, for some additional info.

you could also check your ignition system like plug wires and cap and rotor. all the noise i had was because of my msd box

Thanks for the help, 9177, but no dice. I have changed my wires, plugs, cap, rotor, battery, and I don't have a MSD box. Thanks for the help anyways, dude. But come to think of it, maybe my coil is going...good idea!

A bad diode pack in the alternator will cause noise also.
