valentine one is the best. but its also one of the most expensive one too at $399. you may also want to get a laser jammer since a laser detector wont do you much good. check out the blinder laser jammer. and yes laser jammers are legal because the fda regulates light transmission while the fcc deals with frequncy. check out www.valentineone.com

Yes Valentine is the best, but also most expensive. They key is to Shop around. You can get stuff off Ebay new pretty cheap. On speedzones.com you will find a comparison test of all the TOP models of the major radar/laser detector companies. And from what I've read, there is only ONE laser/radar jammer that works....problem...THEY ARE HIGHLY ILLEGAL, not a state law either. It's a federal law. I have the Cobra ESD-9850 and it has a 2.2 mile range, saved my @$$ from a 115 in a 65 tonight. Heard it, slowed WAAAAY down, and about a mile after i got to speed, here he comes......don't go cheap, at least get top of the line from whatever company. One radar detector is NOT as good as the next.....

i had 3 top of the line bels before i got my v1, the last one being a 745sti. my v1 range was way better on every band. sensitivity makes the differance between getting a ticket or not.

if the v1 is a little to much i have heard good reviews about the escort 8500. the escort is the brand new model from escort and bel. bel was bought out by escort and many of the best technology from the two was put into the new escort. its about $100 cheaper than the v1 but they are backordered for a month.

laser jammers are legal. because the fda regulates lasers and not the fcc. so it is not illegal to transmitt inferred light.almost all laws deal with radio frequncies and do not say anything about light. the only kind of ticket a police could issue you is obsucting justice or interfearing with offical police duty.

According to the Federal Code of Regulations, jamming or attempting to jam a police radar gun is a federal felony punishable by fines up to $75,000 and one year in jail. Certain states like California, Utah, Minnesota, Ohio, Indiana, and Oklahoma have laws prohibiting any jamming device.

Several national news organizations and many car magazines report no "passive jammer" has any effect on radar and laser guns regardless of the advertising claims. However, there is one active radar jammer that returns a variable doppler shift that does have success in jamming older, analog X and K band radar guns. Several stand alone 904 nanometer laser jammers do jam laser guns

Sounds like you've been had.
How does the FDA regulate light transmission? I mean the intials stand for Food and Drug Admistration. Who eats or shoots light?!!!!! If infrared is controlled by a federal organization (our gov't is a bunch of control freaks) Wouldn't it make more sense for the FCC to control it's use, since it travels in waves,... so they could stop sunlight if we turned communist!

the fda regulates laser because they use them in the medical industry. the fda covers infrered light.

i do agree 100% that radar jammers are federaly band in all states but active laser jammers are not.

I would expect the FDA to only govern medicinal lasers (like surgical lasers) but did not know they controlled the jammers also! Let's hope they ignore their authority over them for a long time to come...Until i actually get one and enjoy it's convenience. Radar detectors are specifically illegal in VA (says so on the interstate sign) I think that includes laser detectors, but usually once you've detected the laser it's too late to do anything about it.
