ok.. i have a 86 iroc. it has the electonic truck. well whats happening is when u close the trunk, the trunk hits the part the pulls it down, and u hear the motor for that going.. but the trunk lid doesnt move. i had to drive all the way home *20 miles* and when i got home the motor to the trunk was still going. * i should note that the trunk goes latch close, but it wont pull itself down. whats up??

the gears in the plastic housing are striped or misaligned. sounds like you need a new motor assmbl.
if the striker locks and hits the switch to actuate the motor but the latch doesnt move then the motor is not engaging the latch assembly.
take the trunk plastic off and look at the motor and see if the clear plastic housing is cracked. if it is that will also cause the motor to be unable to engage the latch pull down
all in all I would say take a look at it and if the motor or housing looks broke - go to a parts recycler and get a used or salvaged one for 40 bucks.

 

is the motor down maby ? on my 89 RS somtimes if i closed and opend the trunk quick the hatch woldent catch and the motor woudl go down without grabbing the trunk i stayed in Genovese parking lot for about 30 min b4 i figured out that if i put my finger on the lil black button that senses if the trunk is there that the motor would come back up and i could close my trunk agin
