Whats this connector for?

I recently swapped from auto to manual, and while I had the console out, I noticed a connector that comes out of the harness labeled auto. There is one labeled man right next to it, and so I tried disconnecting the auto connector, and connecting the manual one. I have not noticed any difference at all however, and i've tried driving the car with both. Anyone know what this connection does?

Its possible it was for the neutral safety switch and or the back up lights. Does your reverse lights work?

No, the reverse lights don't work right now, but that is because they aren't connected yet. There is a connector on the side of the transmission for the reverse lights, so that can't be it. As far as it relating to a neutral safety switch, I can't see the relation. Can you please explain what you meant, cause that went right over my head. The clutch safety switch (or clutch starter switch, whatever you want to call it) is mounted on the bracket that holds the pedals. When the clutch pedal is depressed the switch closes the circuit, and allows the car to start.

The one I don't have any clue as to what it does, is a one wire connector that goes behind where the heater control panel would be. Again, I haven't noticed a difference between driving the car with the auto or manual connection, but I'm obviously overlooking something, cause it has to have a purpose.

I could be for the hatch release (if so equipped). The only time the hatch will release in an automatic, is if its in Park. Just a guess though.

I'm curious as to how the hatch release works in a manual car. Does it open only if the clutch is in? Thats how I am planning on wiring it, but I don't know how it comes from factory.
