third brake light
third brake light
My 3rd brake/tail light hasn't ever came on since I had the car approx 3 years. I pulled the cover off of it and checked the wiring. It looks good. I checked the fuses to see if there was a single one for it>>>>>none. What gives??? What do you guys think it could be? It's a '91 'maro and it's on the inside of the glass.
Thanks

I've had to deal with this a couple of times and last time it appeared to be that the contacts in the socket were not connecting to the contacts on the bulb, so I bent the socket contacts slightly inward and it worked then. You gotta be careful, cuz the socket gets real brittle and will break easy. Trust me, I know this first hand... I just got another light from someone else on this board and have to put it in still... Check to make sure you're actually getting power to that socket first, with a test light or multimeter and have someone hit the brakes for you...

You may also want to check out the brake light switch. It has two separate outputs - one for the low mounted dual brake lights (light blue wire), and one for the high mount brake light (yellow wire). The orange wire is the "hot at all times" power feed to the switch.
