broken gauges

Okay, I just recently got a 1989 camaro RS and I have a really stupid question but I know nothing about cars so I figured you guys could help me. The oil pressure gauge doesn't work, or the thermostat doesnt work. I was wondering if you guys knew what I could do to fix it.

Thanks
Matt

what do you mean oil or thermo guage doesn't work?? If the oil pressure guage is pegged out at the top of the range than check the black wire coming off the sender (either down near the oil filter or near the distributor at the back of the block) so see if it's grounding out. Otherwise check the wiring and/or replace the sender. For temperature, check the wiring and sender on the driver's side of the engine near the #3 spark plug - same deal as with the oil pressure one, check wires and/or replace sender. An easy thing might be to just tap the face of the guage to see if they're just physically stuck but that's unlikely.
