code 34

I have a code 34 coing on with my car and a few days ago my car would not start. the alternator is good and so is the battery.
could it be electical?

p.s. i am taking it to a place to get it fixed. Before I take it there i did some research and would like to get some answers. What is a maf and where is?

that way i don't sound stupid up there. I am taking my dad also

MAF is located in the inlet ducting, it will have a wire connector on it.

I know in the early days of TPI GM had trouble with the PROM chips they used, and a false code 34 being set was one of the symptoms of the prom going bad.
Might want to ask your locak GM service dept. if there was a service bulliten released for your particular car/engine combo for prom issues.

The general symptom for Mass Air Flow problems is hard starting and stalling after it starts. In most cases MAF problems will not cause failure to start. The most common problem is the MAF power, and MAF burnoff relays becoming intermittent. They are right next to each other and should be replaced as a pair. They are available at any GM dealership for under 30 bucks for the 2. You don't want to replace the MAF sensor unless it is really bad- they cost a fortune.
