Alternator/generator????
I think in doing the motor swap I some how ended up with 2 extra wires going to my alternator. My 82 firebird has the older style alternator, A plug that goes into the side of the alternator and a wire post on the back, With the word (bat) cast next to it. My ? is do I just use the wire that goes to the battery, Or should there be 2 other wires hooked on to this post as well. It seems to me that when the other two wires are unhooked from a power source I have no power at all in the car, Nothing works.
Can I just wire these two leads to the battery or do they need to be hooked to the alternator??.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
John

You need to know what those two wires are. If they are fusable links then yes they can go to the bat post on the back of the alt. If not then NO.
It kind of sounds like they are though.

The new style alternator should have 1 or 2 wires, in addition to the "Batt" output post on the back. The small diameter brown wire powers the field winding initially, and the small diameter red wire is a voltage sense input to the regulator. The small red wire may be tied to the output lug on the back of the alternator, however, it usually runs to the large lug on the starter.
