A/C Diode

For those of you that have it, you know the little diode that sits in the plug for your A/C harness hookup (to the compressor)...

Mine's burnt (no continuity in either direction)...

What's the voltage rating on that, so I can buy a new one at radio shack?

Joe

not a big deal the rating on diodes as long as it isn't too small. Just grab one about the same size.
The trick to diodes is having them connected in the right direction to do their job.

Heh, I've always wondered if that diode was supposed to be there. Guess it is....

The diode is there to absorb the reverse current spike that results from the colapsing magnetic field generated when the electromagnetic solenoid clutch is turned off. A 1N4003 diode from Radio Shack will work as a replacement. Install the diode with the cathode (banded end) connected to the positive wire & the anode connected to the negative (black) wire.
