CODE 23..HELP!!!
CODE 23..HELP!!!
I have an '86 with a 2.8l and I've been getting code 23. My manual says it's the VSS, but mechanics are saying my car doesn't have one(no cruise control). Can anyone help me figure out what's going on here and let me know how to resolve the problem?

Your car does have a VSS and a VSS buffer on the rear of the cluster (analog speedo), or a VSS mounted in the transmission with the VSS buffer near the ECM (digital speedo T/A), or behind the driver's side kick panel (Berlinetta). The VSS buffer supplies the ECM with a 4000 pulse per mile signal.

If you have an analog speedometer, and it is functioning, then the problem is either the speed buffer in the cluster, or its connection to the ECM. Pull the cluster & inspect the optical pickup & reflective disk in the speedo & the connections to the speed buffer module mounted on the back of the cluster. Also, make sure there is continuity between the ECM & the cluster plug on the VSS wire.
