Quick question on chips..........

Can you put a chip for an 88 in an 89 ( or whatever year)if the drivetrain is the exact same? Or a chip for a Blazer in a pickup? I can't see why it wouldn't work, I just want to make sure. The other factors shouldn't affect the engine management.
I only want to know because someone always sells those ADS chips for $20 on ebay and I need to know if one would go in my S10, it is just a year off. Thanks in advance.

I wouldnt' chance it. There are small variations between each year, and the chip controls ALL sorts of stuff.

If we're talking about F-Bodies the 88 and 89 chips are different. VATS started in 89 also, so the car wouldnt even start or give you a VATS error code.

i would keep the same chip. i put a bigger engine in my 87 iroc from an 89. when i put the chip from the 89 in the computer from the 87, it tried to turn over, but that was about it. once i put the original chip in, it fired up without a problem.
