Electric Fan...problem???

I have a 91 305 TBI Camaro and of course it has the single electric fan. My question is, is this fan only supposed to come on at a certain temp?? Ever since Ive had the car (almost 2 yrs) the fan has always came on when I turn the key to ON. The fan also stays on constantly, never going off. I have read a few topics on this board about fans that dont come on when their supposed to. Well what if mine never goes off?? Relay problems??

Yes, the fan is supposed to only go on when you have the A/C compressor running or when the engine coolant is over a certian temp. Note that on some cars(I'm not sure about the f-bodies) the a/c compressor runs when the selector is on defrost.

I'm not sure on whether your ecm controls the fan or if there is a dedicated sensor. At any rate, you might have a problem with the temperature sensor or switch, or with the relay.

Someone also at some point in the past might have wired the fan so that it was always on for some reason.

For about $20 I bought a little kit that installs a temp sensor in the radiator between the fins, and controls one or two fans with its own relay. I used this because I had no stock fan equipment, but you could just install a system like this and solve your problem.

Check the temperature switch in the passenger side cylinder head - it controls the fan relay along with the A/C switch. If the temperature switch is bad (shorted), or the wire to the switch is grounded, the fan will run continuously, while the ignition is turned on.
