Switched 12V wire to alt question...
So I have a switched wire comming from my harness (actually the same one that goes to the pos side of my choke) that goes through the 10W 150 Ohm resistor to the alt to "tell" it that the car is on and to charge the battery. I have to do this because I must have buggered up that wire (to the Choke light) when I re-did all my gauges a few weeks ago.
If that voltage is only about 11V, will that "tell" the alt not to charge as much (say 12.8V vs 14.4V)? Or is it simply a "Charge" or "no charge" deal and the speed that the alt is spinning (slower due to 25% underdrive crank pulley) is the reason I am not cranking out enough voltage?
If it is the fact that the wire should read 12V... how can I "up the voltage"? Add more/less resistance?
With my windshield wipers going, my headlights on, and only the vent running, my battery (only 4 months old) is drained after only a few minutes in slow traffic. It wouldn't turn over last night, but this morning did, and after I drove a few blocks, the blinkers started to blink their normal speed and the car perked up again.
