Tach is jumpy, Ignition cuts, car dies. WTF?

Since I changed my intake manifold, my tach will intermittently start jumping around and the engine will start cutting out. Sometimes it will die altogether and sometimes it will just go away. If it dies, I can just wait a minute and it will start and run fine. The coil is cool to the touch after this happens so it is not getting hot. It happens usually if I hold 3000-4000 rpms getting on the expressway. Sometimes it does it when rowing through the gears. In gear, if it dies, the tach will show 0 rpm even if the trans is spinning the engine at 2000. The rest of the gauges work at this point. Any ideas? Does the coil get a ground through the bracket? The coil is just sitting on the manifold until I modify the bracket to work on the Accel base. I changed the module with no luck.

TACH SIGNAL COMES FROM SPARK. SOUNDS LIKE U HAVE A BAD COIL OR BAD CONNECTION TO YOUR DISTRIBUTOR CAP BOTH THESE CONNECTIONS ARE ON THE CAP NEXT TO EACH OTHER. GOOD LUCK

Frank,
I am having the same problem, only just with my tach jumping all over. My ignition seems to be fine, other than I need ti advance my timing. Have you taken youor instument cluster appart yet. I'm curious if there is anyway to test the tach itsel. If there is a short in there, it may be possible that it could be shorting out your coil. Thus no spark. I just hope my problem doesn't lead to yours.
later.
Andy

I put an Accel coil on this weekend and mounted it underneath my cowl. This should help isolate it from engine vibrations. So far, problem solved. My tach does fluctuate very slightly if I hold it a one rpm. Andy, if your engine doesn't miss when your tach jumps around, I'd look at your connections as ZANG suggested. It may be your cluster. Good luck and let me know if you figure it out. My tach is also way off compared to the reading on my Haltech DFI. About 200 rpm at idle to over 1000 rpm at 6000rpm.
