Installing my ECM
Installing my ECM
I finally got my ECM from the states today. It is a MAP ECM and I have to put it into my 86ROC. My car underwent conversion from MAF to MAP. But the stupid mechanics did not change the ECM in the process and ever since the car has been runing in open loop and Rich. Now my question is what is needed to be changed for the ECM to be correcly connected to the wiring harness? Do all the pins line up the same as on the MAF ECM, or are the pin locations different for MAP?
Also are the EPROMS the same I think they are not as I read in the PROM burning section. 27C256 is MAP and 27C128 is MAF.
Might even have to get the whole chip replaced for it to work correctly. What do you guys recommend I do, buy a hypertech chip or something like that??
Can I damage the ECM if I try my exsisting chip?
If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

MAF and MAP ECMs have different harness connections altogether - the '86 - '89 MAP ECMs have two multiwire connectors, while the '90 - '92 MAF ECMs have three multiwire connectors. I wonder how the conversion was done while using the MAF ECM - was the MAP sensor output simply connected to the MAF sensor input on your ECM?
