140 AMP alternator & 16 volt battery

Can we just swap in a 140 amp B4C alternator into our cars without any other mods? Also, same question for a 16 volt battery??

Anyone done these mods lately?

Thanks!

You need a special bracket from GM to install the B4C alternator. Do a search for B4C, or 140 amp alternator - there were a few posts on this board regarding the bracket part number.

I wouldn't go using a 16V battery. I'm not knowledgeable in general about the finer details of electronics, but my mechanic when I asked him about 2 batteries said not to run them in parallel or I'd fry the whole car. That's 24V not 16, but isn't 16 the "redline" for the battery guage anyway?

To charge a 16 volt battery, you'll need the alternator to provide 18 or more volts. This means that you'd need a special alaternator, or the existing alternator with a special regulator to run a 16 volt, vice 12 volt electrical system.

That means that you'll have 18 or more volts with the 16-volt alternator running. I'd suspect the ECM, if it survives, wouldn't last very long. Ditto for every other electrical device in the car (the life of the headlights would be reduced).

You can't just put in a 16 volt battery in a 12 volt electrical system and expect it to work.

It is possible, but would require a lot of modifying (read expensive).

If you run them in parallel you double the amperage, not the voltage. To get 24 volts you would have to wire them in series.

Just curious, why were you gonna run 2?
