Tried EVERYTHING: Fans STILL wont come on!

I just replaced the fan motor, radiator (bad leak) and alternator on my car....checked the fan relay, the fuse in the fuse box...fan turns on when I turn on the AC....car will cool down without AC when cruising.....as soon as I hit traffic or have been idling for a while...the temperature starts to raise...little by little...if I dont turn on the AC...it will overheat....fan wont turn on at all until I turn the AC on.....grounded the wire to the fan switch...fan turned on.....replaced the fan switch and wrapped in teflon tape......still didnt work......took switch out, took of telfon tape......still didnt work.....anyone have any idea what the heck is going on??? I want to have it like stock (though I will like to lower the temperature that it comes on at...but I want to make sure everything works first) so I dont want any aftermarket suggestions (like the switch that mounts to the radiator or whatever) or wiring the fan to a manual switch....what else could it possibly be????

well there is obviously still some problem with getting power to the motor. you know the motor is good, maybe the new switch is defective?? also maybe there is a problem in the wiring, trace all the wires and see how they look

If you ground the wire going to the switch & the fan turns on, the wiring is OK. Either the switch is defective, or you need a switch with a lower turn on point - Hypertech sells fan switches that mount in the stock location & turn the fan on at a lower temperature.

Mult,

Make sure you have the correct temperature sensor for the fan. If the parts counter inadvertently gave you a resistance type sensor (for a gauge or ECM) you might not get the fan to operate. You need a hard contact switch, not a sensor. If you grounded the wire at the sensor and the fan operates, there is not much left but the sensor and the possibility of excess air or sludge in the cooling system.
