Fan Bypass?Tryed everything, still wont work
Ok i have a 92RS with the 5.0TBI, i saw someone else having the problem of the fan not comming on unless the a/c was turned on, i have replaced everything even the fan, if i tap into the wires (at the fan) with a toggle switch will it cause any problems?Or should i just disconnect the fanfrom the wire's completly & run it from a toggle?I am past the point of knowing what to do.if anyone can, email me Gizmo20112@aol.com

If the fan operates with the AC, the fan power and relay must be operating. The problem is likely the coolant temperature sensor for the fan. There should be a sensor on teh right head between cylinders 2 and 4. This sensor should have a dark green wire on it. The sensor will ground the wire when the coolant reaches a given temperature, usually 223°-238°F. If the sensor or a connection has failed, the fan will not operate. You can test this by grounding the dark green wire to operate the fans. A new sensor is about $20.00.

Also, if you replace the sensor, DON'T use teflon tape on the threads because this will prevent the sensor from grounding properly and then the fans STILL won't work!!
My suggested alternative is to buy an adjustable fan switch! It allows you to set the fan to come on at whatever temperature you want which is good for using cooler thermostats and it also comes with detailed intstructions so it isn't hard to hook up at all!! (That's what I'm using)
You can hook up a toggle directly to the fan if you prefer but if you do that make sure your toggle is a high amp switch or it'll burn up quickly!! Even with a high amp switch it will burn up eventually and you'll hafta replace it! Good thing they don't cost much!! The most effective way to hook up a toggle switch directly to the fan is to buy an SPDT relay and hook that up between the fan and switch! This will keep the switch from burning up!!
