I have a Viper 300 ESP that partially works. It looks like everything is hooked up but the shock sensor doesn't work. The only thing I could find that was wrong was an Orange wire from the Viper unit wasn't connected to anything, judging from the wiring job I saw (A 2 year old could have done better) the wire probably fell out of a splice, I found a big yellow factory wire that is spliced but has nothing going into it. Does anyone know where I can find out what the orange wire on the viper alarm does? If this was a professional install this was the most pitiful one ever, they didn't even use wirenuts on some connections, WTF! I am thinking maybe the stupid previous owner did it. Also does anyone have a rough idea on how much would it be to have an installer reinstall the alarm?

I have a Viper 300 that came with my car, looks like the same person that did yours probably did mine too! I spent about two hours on mine with my soldering iron re-splicing all the half-a$$ed connections.
I THINK, memory prevailing, that the orange wire is part of the starter-defeat relay. The big yellow wire is your ignition.
To be sure, take a look at the alarm's 'brain' box. On mine they have a wiring color code molded right into the chassis, but it's on the back, so if it's mounted somewhere you'll have to un-mount it.
This should help, if i'm at all accurate.
EDIT: Oh yeah, there's a screw somewhere on that shock sensor that you can turn to adjust the sensitivity. My sensor's got a red LED inside it, so you can tap on it while you're adjusting it. The only real way to check it though, is too rap on the car to see how sensitive it is.

If you tap your shock sensor hand you get the little red - you may want to relocate it. The guy who installed mine, while doing a great wiring job, placed the shock sensor on a foam pad under the dash. You could have dropped a safe on my car and the damn thing wouldn't go off.

Mine's strap-tied right onto the steering column, that's where the local Viper dealer told me to put it. Whoever put this thing in the car originally had it on the firewall insulation with double sided tape!! Moron.

What is a viper 300 esp?

 

a viper 300 ESP is a car alarm, ESP i think means something like electronic shock protection. As far as i know that just means it has a shock sensor and the 300 doesn't.

I believe we have the base Viper alarm system, the features and model #'s just go up from 300. Mine's not an ESP, but it has the external shock sensor wired in on the accessory trigger so it works more or less the same.
