Hook a wire from the battery straight to the purple (or whatever color it might be, just, not the black wire tho) & listen for it to run.

okay i did this and i am thinking it is bad (as nothing happens when i hook it to battery w/ wire). so how should i go about getting a new motor??? junkyard? refurbished discount auto type?? any where else??? and how much mula should i expect it to cost??? P.S. i dropped a socket and an open end wrench down in that crevice taking the fan out.....i tried one of those magnet things....not a trace of them at all! any idea where they went/how to retrieve them???

you can get a brand new motor from somewhere like advance or pepboys for about $20.00 or so.
