grounds in dash??

My volt gauge in the car is reading off, but it corrects itself when I wack underneath the dash. The spot that I hit is directly to the right of the steering column on the underside of the dash. Is there a ground somewhere around there that could be causing my gauge to read a low voltage? I think this may be partly responsible for so many of my electrical problems. Any ideas???

Thanks in advance,
Mike

there's a big ring terminal that attaches to the u-shaped bracket that surrounds the top of the steering column. remove the underdash trim panel to access it.

loose wires

i was just wondering of this is a problem common to third gen car mine does the exact same thing as you describe. i have not fixed it yet but i was able to verify that that is was indeed my guage by putting a digital miltimeter on the battery terminal and comapring that reading to my guage and found that the battery was always at 14.7 volts while the guages bounced aroung between 13 and 15 volts. i will try that suggestion about the ground on the column
