Neutral Safety Cutout

Okay guys, here's the deal. I am doign swap from auto to manual. I have noticed though that the Purple and Yellow wires that went to my auto shifter for the neutral/park starter has no power goign through it. I hooked the two together and the car won't crank. ANy ideas? Blown fuse maybe?

Make sure its hooked up to the right terminal on your starter or solenoid. It should connect to the switched terminal. It doesn't get power until you turn the key to the "ON" position.

The heavy gauge yellow wire should have +12v on it only when you're trying to start the car (key in 'crank' position). The purple wire off the neutral safety switch runs to the starter and the circuit is complete only in park & neutral (on an automatic). Jumping the 2 together should let the car start (unless you have VATS which I personally know nothing about).
On a standard/manual shift car, the circuit it completed thru the clutch switch.

If there is no +12v on the yellow wire during crank, check the heavy gauge red wire at the ignitiong switch on the steering column for a constant (key position doesn't matter on this wire) +12v. If there is no voltage on this wire, the wire has a break somewhere in it or, the fusible link at the starter has blown. (pardon any typos or vagueness)

if the car has vats, there will be a "starter enable" in series between the ignition switch and the park neutral switch. if you're getting power at the ignition switch harness on the crank wire when the key is turned to start but not at the park neutral switch, suspect either a bad relay or some other sort of vats related malfunction.

I found out the problem guys. There's a flat 4 pin plug that goes into the alternator. That turns out to run the power for the neutral cut out switch. So the car tries to crank now. Thanks for all the help though!
