Quick question about the battery
I was running my car the other day and somethign weird happened. After I shut it off and tried to start it it would only do like one revolution every second it would crank and then stop for a sec then crank again. Then I noticed that the positive battery was smoking. does that mean I have a corss somewhere? Or does that mean that the battery is junk?
The reason I suspect the battery as being bad is that before that day it would just crank and crank and crank no problems. tehn that day is started acting weird. thanks

it sounds like two things to me.
1. The battery is not able to provide the amount of power to turn the engine over. Take the battery to a local parts store and have them test it.
2. The starter could be drawing to many amps and the battery can not keep up/provide more amps to start the car. If the starter has been acting up lately, then i would suspect the starter. But if the starter has started the car with out any problems i would suspect the battery.
With the summer time here, batteries tend to die quickly with the heat from the engine and the heat from outside. Also make sure the alternator is working when and if you replace the battery.

thanks for the help. IT used to crank it fine and it is a brand new starter I am going to take it to a parts store because it is under warranty.
