Ignition Module wiring problem & wire interference question, please help!
Ignition Module wiring problem & wire interference question, please help!
I've just installed a new ignition module in my 1988 L98 GTA. The only problem while installing the ignition module was that the plastic clip that joined the two wires coming distributor (I think the pickup coil wires) was shattered and I had no idea which wire went on which of the two posts.
If the is no plastic clip seperating the two wires, would there be arching or interference between the two wires from the pickup coil? Should I apply a little RTV silicone between the two wires to?
Because after installing the module the car misses BAD, where it never missed before. I installed a new rotor because it looked worn out, but it did nothing to solve the missing.
If anyone has recently installed an ignition module, or can remember installing one, could you please clarify which wire connects on which post? Would the wrong wire on the wrong post cause the engine to miss so badly (the motor does compensate when the engine is almost ready to stall because of the missing) I am scared that if I take the wires off and change which post they are currently on, I'll blow the module.

I would just replace the pickup coil. I had to replace it on my Monte Carlo SS last year, and it was about $10-12. The only diadvantage is that you have to remove the distributor and disassemble it to replace the coil. From the sounds of the symptoms, it might be a bad pickup coil, anyway. Good luck.
