Need help with finding/choosing kit to rebuild alternator

I got the last alt rebuild kit from Jegs I think, but don't see it listed in their catelog anymore. Can't find it on their webpage either.

In Summit, I see a "one wire" kit that includes: a voltage regulator, new brush holder, hardware, and easy to follow instructions. SUM-1667 $34

Is this what I want? I don't know what amperage it is, or does it matter for just this stuff? If I can find a rebuild kit, what is the max amperage I should go with? I don't think the stock cuts it anymore with all the gauges, msd, and amplifiers my radio goes through. Thanks.

BTW- I think I blew this alternator (regulator) because I hooked up the sensor wire (black wire that plugs into alt from a 12V switched source) wrong. I needed a 150ohm/5W resistor or light in line from what others have told me...

Call up your local auto parts stores. I believe Autozone and Advance and probably Pep boys all sell them. I think you can get a standard rebuild kit that comes with the basics (brushes, diode trio, regulator, etc.)or a H.O. version that also includes a larger stator to up the amps, but it also ups the price . As a last resort, you can try J.C. $hitley, but beware their parts aren't always up to par.

Consider two Summit repair/conversion kits sold by "Iceburg Alternator", that are essentially a rebuild kit, but also offer improved cooling ability. With the second kit ($100), you get an increased output (140 ampere) in addition to the better cooling, so you can't reall call them just a rebuild kit. If you're going to rebuild it, you may as well get the better cooling ability ($50) or get more output in addition to better cooling ($100).

NQS-D1-7130 $50 (standard)
NQS-D1-7140 $100 (150 ampere output)

I have the basic ($50) kit which has a better rear housing (a small aluminum heatsink on the rear to aid in cooling as well as machined to accept larger rear bearing), new front/rear bearings (the rear being larger than stock), a new rectifier as well as a new brush assembly (no new regulator).

J.C. Whitney also sell these two kits for the same price.

I have not had any problems with my conversion made >40K miles ago.
