Firing order?

I am in the process of the taking the distributor cap off so that I can replace my ICM. This is the first time I have actually had this piece off, so I'm not sure if this is possible. I looked in my Chilton's so that I could check the firing order, while I was removing the boots from the distributor. The plug wiring is way different than what is in the Chilton's manual. I believe only 2 and 7 were in the correct position. Will the car run properly with the firing order out of whack? Will it run at all? It ran nice and pretty before, but could have a mechanic played with it(gave my parents the car for the winter), and caused a severe performance drop? I'm basing the order starting with the 1 plug which is towards the front of the car, driver's side. Is that the correct location for #1?

Yea, #1 is right where you said to point it at... I believe the firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. I'm pulling that from memory, but it will, or should be in your book, too. And yes, your engine will run like crap with a bad firing order, if it will even run at all... FYI, the firing order should also be on your intake manifold...

The correct firing order for any chevy v-8 is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, I'm not sure about the new blocks (LS-1, new vortec truck blocks). The wires could have all been one off to the right or the left on the distributor, if the distributor was turned enought to get them back where they should be. I've run into this before on a 2.8L in a blazer and took me a while to get it figured out.

Well, the firing order is apparently correct, because it starts and runs. I'm too tired to go back out and take it apart and see exactly what it is, but anyways, it still didn't solve my problem from in this thread:
