couple questions

couple of things
well, my car had the battery frying the wires proble.., tusn out, there isnt a bolt for the water pump bracket, causing the alt. bracket to be loose, and it was making contact with the plenum and the TPS and the IAC valve, also causing the belts to be loose..after fixing that.., the battery now holds its charge, the fan works(it didnt before and i always overheated) , i dont idle rough anymore, used to be between 250 and 1200 rpm's at idle, now it stays steady at 600.., ho woculd the thing with the alternator cause so much trouble?..

another question,

emissions is comign soon, but i need to fix all my exhaust leaks first, which might invovle alot of money fixing the stock exhaust, then after..more money putting a new exhaust on, if i added a 3 inch HI flow cat, or a gutted cat, leading to dual 40 series, would it pass emissions?, cuz thats alot of money to fix the stock exhaust, then throw it off for a dif exhaust

I'd guess because the atl was loose, the belt was slipping & the alt wasn't producing enough amp/voltage to keep the ECM & other stuff happy.

A high flow cat at least would most likely be needed to pass emissions depending on how strict where you live is (I have none so I don't really know). The rest of the exhaust is just decoration, for the most part.
