Anyone have any ideas for this!

Some newer model cars have the feature that the radio continues to play when the car is turned off until the doors are opened. Is this posible to do on our cars (i have an '88 Camaro w/ Kenwood CD player)? Help!?

Thanks

Well, that depends. Alot of these cars use timers like newer Chevy's that'll also turn that radio off if the engine is turned off and 10 minutes has passed as part of the battery rundown feature, depending if the door was opened or not. Same goes for lights, except for headlights. Now, considering that the BCM is responsible for this, you'd need the switch, usually within the entire door latch, wiring, and the control module. Then the module will need to be hooked up to other accessories...

I'm sure it can be done with the proper switch and a timer/relay. Problem is, I'm tired and can't think of a way right about now. I would think alot of wiring, perhaps fab work would be neccessary. I'm not an electrical-wiring genious, so sorry I can't help you there...

Yes, you could do this with a single shot timer. You'd have to power the timer from a circuit that's live when the engine is turned off. Set the timer to time down for the amount of seconds or minutes you want the radio to run. When it times down it will go off and not energize again till you cycle it by starting up and stopping the engine.

As an aside I rent a lot of cars. A lot of them have this feature. I just figure its somehing else to break.

GoodLuck :0

I do think you have to have a newer radio that supports that feature. Actually I know you need one that supports the feature.

The feature is called R.A.P. Retained Acceserary power. I think You would have to the rap module and the relay to make this work.
