Auto Meter guage install
Hello, i was wondering if anyone who has done this could give me some advice. I recently purchased a set of Auto Meter guages to be placed in a carbonfiber dash panel and into a pillar pod. I would like to know if anyone has spliced in a plug so that i would be able to remove the whole panel easier at a later date. I have a shop manual for my car so that should help a bit. Is there any major problems i will run into? The guages are electric and i would like to put them in when i do my motor swap so that the miles on the odometer are as close to accurate as possible. thanks for your time
If you're just asking about adding a plug inline with the wires on your gauges, then yeah, I've done it. Radio Shack sells generic male and female plastic connectors with the pins out so you can crimp them onto wires. I got two and six wire plugs for gauges.
It's a very good idea to use them for just the reason you state: taking them out at a later date as one piece.

Hey, thanks! All i would have to do is find the correct wires from the original guages, put them into the plug, and then take the same wires from the auto meter guges and put them into the coresponding places on the plug, right? Were there any guages that you found to be difficult to install? I got the stock guages, a speedo, tach, fuel, volt meter, oil temp, water temp. thanks for your time!
Nope, nothing particularly difficult. Just a lot of wires to run, but if you take advantage of the existing wires, it takes a lot of the work out of it. I only had to run wires for some of the extraneous crap I added, like the A/F and battery voltage gauge (I have two voltage gauges, one for the "car" which reads the voltage at the gauges fuse, and one for the "battery" which reads the battery voltage right at the positive terminal of the battery, and at the flip of a switch the votage at my stereo amp).

Thank you Jza for your help. I read in another post that the best place to run the wires is in the hole for the speedo cable? If i use the existing wires up in the dash would i still have to do this? Also, how hard was that A/F ratio to install? I am thinking of picking one up too before i put the rest of the guages in! I would think that it would be best to run a "plug" in the dash for later removal to be easier and so that is what i am going to try and do. Well, thanks again for your help and time. later OK, i am a little tired! I would still have to run the senders correct! I got the electrical guages. So i could use that hole! To tell you the truth i have'nt even opened the guages to go over the instructions, i bet that would help a lot too! Your help is still welcome though, thanks-Bryan
