FUEL PUMP BLUES

ok, I need a new fuel pump, I want to put on an electric external, I don't have a whole lot of horses so I don't need something HUGE so I looked at Holley's Standard Pressure pump, BUT it says not recomended for fuel injection..... so my problem is that I need an electric external pump for a fuel injected car with not a whole lot of mods, but a few... nothing major

Why not just pull the tank & replace the original pump with a Buick Grand National / Cyclone pump, which has a bit higher flow capacity over the stock pump (41 vs. 24 - 28 gph @ 50 psig)?? It's not that big a job to do the pump, once the exhaust is dropped.

NextGen Parts (www.nextgenparts.com) has just what you need! Accel high-pressure EFI fuel pump, 45 psi rating, suitable for use up to 500hp for $139 and includes the mounting bracket! This pump is great even if you're not using alot of HP right now... and if you decide to modify in the future you can still use this pump all the way up to 500HP!! This is the pump that I'll be using when my intank craps out on me just like the last TWO have!! Don't listen to people who say it's "simple" to drop the tank and put in the new pump! If they say it's simple then they've probably done it a dozen times or more! My entire exhaust system on my car is welded and I don't think CUTTING it down and then paying someone to weld it back up is quite worth it! Install the in-line pump in your car in about an hour, leave the dead intank pump inside the tank and the inline will pull through JUST FINE!! Oh yeah, make sure you add a relay when you hook up the pump.... if you don't, the pump will draw too much amperage and eventually die!!

It's welded at the cat too? That sucks for you. A fuel pump is "simple" just time consuming and involved. It was actually a very relaxing job for me.

What Cat?? LOL! Got rid of that restrictive POS a long time ago! I guess for SOME people the exhaust isn't an issue... it is for me though!

If you go to an external pump, you still need to drop the tank and remove the intank pump and replace the pickup from a carbed car.
I just installed a Holley external pump on my 86 Trans Am but since I had a carb, I didn't have to do anything to my tank. I just had to put high pressure lines from the tank to the fuel pump, then to the fuel filter and finally to the hard lines on the chassis.
I am nearly finished with my TPI conversion.
