swapping from an 82-84 85 gauge cluster to an 85+ 145 cluster...
I was told by a friend doing something similar that the connectors in the back do different things ...
I've got an 83 Z28 currently with the split 85 .
I've got an 85+ (I think 87...) 145 cluster...
What is the difference between each cluster?
Do the Fuel, Oil, Water and Battery gauges still use the exact same wiring as the 82-84?
Or do I have to end up re-wiring this stupid thing so I can have a full set of gauges and know exactly how much fuel I've got, etc.
This is sort of an urgent thing as I'm putting my gauges in tonight.

Some cars came without the tachometer and only had warning lights for oil pressure and temperature. As long as both clusters have the tach then no worries.
If you're really worried about it, you can just swap the speedometer between the two clusters. You might also want to swap the odometer rolls between the speedos so that your mileage is still correct.

I recently swapped my 85mph speedo ('86) for a 145mph speedo ('87). Follow Apeiron's advice and only swap the speedo's, not the entire gage cluster, very easy to do. I also used the temp gage from the '87 because my '86 did not work, turns out I had to buy a new temp sensor (located in the head) for the '87 gage. The temp sensors are not the same for all years, I know that '85 & '86 are the same and it is different for '87. Also, be careful with the new speedo, tougher to keep it within the speed limit until you get used to it!

I've never seen the one with the lights on them... can someone post a picture of them??

I don't have a picture of one, but there should be an illustration in your owner's manual, if you still have it. The tachometer was replaced by the fuel gauge, and the other gauge locations had warning lights behind them.
