Hi/Low Headlight switch
Hi/Low Headlight switch
My headlight dimmer switch is broken on my '91 formula 350. The housing on the steering column moves (its worn or broke?) and its almost impossible to get the the brights to come on. I read the tech article on adding a floor dimmer. I don't quite understand something. Do you tap into the wiring in the steering column or is it somewhere under the dash? I am not looking forward to getting into the steering column, is there anywhere else to tap into? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
yes, the dimmer switch is under the dash, halfway down the stering colum where the rod from the lever comes down to accuate the dimmer switch, there you will find the wires your looking for to tap into
hope this will help you!

If your switch and all isn't actually broken that you know of, chances are that the switch has just came out of range of the actuator rod - an easy fix, so to speak. The switch itself is located about the 11:00 position of the steering column, looking at it from the seat. It is pretty far down, near the firewall. If you follow the rod, you will easily see it. Anyhow, there are (2) 1/4" screws on it, and probably just needs to be readjusted. It is easier to get to if you drop the column by the two nuts holding it up under the guage cluster...

The dimmer switch on there is a cheap, worthless piece of garbage. Find the harness low on the steering column. You dont have to mess with the dash at all. Maybe just the bottom panel to get to the bottom of the column. The floor switch will plug right up.
what sort of switch ya use for the floor switch? my stupid headlight/dimmer switch is also jacked up (for the time being i just unplugged my bright headlights... i think.... for a '91 camaro... the brights are the outside headlights or the inside headlights??? hard to tell even when they on) and i dont feel like tearing into my steering column right now... a part# or whatever would be cool if u know of one that worked for you! thanx.
