Ditched ECM, now voltmeter isnt working right

Ok I got rid of the ECM, I'm still running the CC q-jet and Distributor, even though i shouldnt, and now i always read low voltage. I start it up and it runs around 13 and when im driving or sitting at idle it read between 8-13 and flucuates. When the meter reads low my lights ARENT dim and my turn signals blink at a normal pace. I replaced the alt. a few months ago cause the other gave out. So i know what to look for when that dies.Is the new one crap? I was lookin into a higher Amp alt. cause i have quite a few assecories, fan, stereo, amp, fog lights. Any suggestions? TIA
