Er......radiator fan stays on?

Hey guys. This just started happening recently but when I turn the car off the radiator fan will stay running. If I put the key forward as to start it but dont start it, and turn it off again it normally shuts off again, but it will take a few tries of doing this to get it to turn off. 88 Iroc w/ a 350... A relay? Something in the ignition switch? Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a sticking relay.

sounds like a relay, they are located on the drivers firewall to the right of the brake reservoirs..

find out what fan, because most likely you have two fans each has its own relay, they are right next to each other.

Pull the 20 amp fuse in the fuse panel marked CH/Fan or Fan and see if it continues to run. If it does it's a bad relay. If it goes off, then the switched 12 volts to the relay coil is not always turning off. Pulling the fuse will basically disconnect one-half of the relay(the coil side), which removes the power that controls the relay. The fan motor gets its power from the heavy wire's on the relay or the contact side. If the relay is mechanically sticking with the coil power removed it will still provide power to the fan because the heavy wires for the motor get power directly from the battery.
