Fuel Pump wont turn on

I put a new carb motor in my car and now my fuel pump wont work. It was a TPI. If I jump it by using the box under my dash the pump works so I know its not broke. Also, when I jump the relay it works. Anyone know the problem. Anyon have pics of how the pump wires hook up near the fuel pump fuse. I may have hooked up the two resistors that are on the same wire as the fuse wrong. Please Help. Is there a way of bypassing this? Is my relay gone?

When you put in the carbed engine what did you do with the ECM? The operation of the fuel pump relay to start the engine is performed by the ECM. When you try to start a TPI the fuel pump energizes for about 2-4 sec to prime the fuel rail. It then shuts off until the engine starts. With engine running the relay energizes again and a switch on the oil pressure sending unit closes after 5psi of oil pressure comes up and also provides another voltage path to feed the pump. If the ECM is out you may have to crank her until you get enough oil press to fire the pump. It is a common problem for TG's when the relay goes bad, they have to crank several times before they will start. Have to let me know what setup you have.

Thanks for the reply. I just ended up jumping the relay so that when I turn the key the pump turns on. I plan on getting an electric pump soon and using my in-tank for a nitrous backup pump. It should hold me over for now though.

fuel pressure regulator

hey, do you need to use a fuel pressure regulator? what is the difference between a electric pump and an in-tank pump? i am converting my tpi to carb too.

You can just keep the pump you have in the car now. I made the conversion already. You need a Mallory three port regulator. You have two fuel lines, One is the inlet the other is the return. All you do is get the mallory 3-port regulator. Hook up the smaller of the two fuel lines to the bottom of the regulator (this is the return line- you will need hose and 3/8 fittings from the regulator- summit sells a three pack for like $5 all chrome). Then you hook up the other fuel line to one port on the regulator, then go from the regulator to the carb. You willl have to block off two ports of the regulator if your not using them for a fuel pressure gauge.
