i recommend getting a volt meter, test the power wire going to it with the voltmeters + lead (not sure color, red maybe, and then the other lead (- lead) from the volt meter clip to ground (black)). if power is good, check the yellow wire (i think its yellow, hehe) (if its not connected or whatever, not sure how to check it though, hehe, prolly sends some sort of voltage thru when brake pedal is pressed in so if u clip the + volt meter lead to it and the neg to ground and push the brake pedal in and it reads some voltage then it prolly works fine, not sure though so i could be full of crapola!) going to the brake light, its the wire from the brake switch to tell the light to come on and off. maybe this helps or not, no wiring diagram with me right now, sorry, book's out in my car!

I have had the same problem with my 89 RS. The guy at Autozone said that the bulbs are super sensitive and if there is anything on the bulb (i.e. oil from your hands) it can cause the bulbs to burn out because of the amount of heat.
