Open element and stock electric choke

Will I be able to use an open element on my CC Quadrajet? I've heard that without that heat riser thing coming off the exhaust manifold the choke wont work right. Wouldn't this also be true if I added headers? Will not using the heat riser thing make the car take forever to warm up on cold mornings? Thanks in advance.

The choke on your Q-jet is electric and so doesn't use a heat stove.
