trunk (hatchback) pull down motor
The hatchback locking mechanism has stopped working, it unlocks ok but when you close the trunk it does not pull itself shut and lock. Should one of the two wires connected to the contact plate be live? How can I test the motor?

The red with white stripe wire that connects to the blue wire form the pull-down unit supplies the +12v source. Check the 15a fuse labeled "LID" in the fuse block. I will e-mail you scans of my HELMS manual to help diagnose it. I also sell the repair parts for the 86-91 hatch pull-down units if you need any. Good luck, Lon.

The white wire plugs into a black with orange stripe wire on 89-91 model years. For those cars there it is used as a switched ground to turn on and off the hatch light, there is no manual switch for the hatch light.
