Standard gague cluster replacable with a digital?
Standard gague cluster replacable with a digital?
Heya guys, love this board.
Im buying an 86' Berlinetta this weekend, and I've seen pictures of some of the digital dashes that you guys have. Man do they look SWEET. What Im wondering is if there is any possible way to swap out the guages with all the digital doo-dads?
Thanks!!
Mike

You have to settle for the dash that's in there. I don't believe there is any aftermarket supplier selling replacements for the stock Berlinetta digital dash ! A *regular* camaro dash will not fit in there !
I am still hoping to see a berlinetta dash that reads over 85 MPH before I die !!!

Unless you replace the WHOLE dash carrier it will not interchange.

I installed an 86-Z interior into an 85 Berlinetta about a year & a half ago and it was a pretty complicated swap.
I was lucky in that the donor car - (86 Z) was a 305ci LG4. That meant MOST of the body connector wiring (from fuse box to firewall connector) was pretty close to matching up. The Berlinetta was also an LG4 motor. (The wiper wiring had to be re-wired because the body connector leads did not match.)
As far as what you need in order to make a "regular" camaro gauge swap into a digital Berlinetta ---
Steering column
Floor console (complete)
dash housing (complete)
wiper motor
heater-A/C box (interior & motor compartment)
Speedometer cable
Speedometer sensor (on tranny)
The wiring harness that runs from the driver kick panels area to the rear lights is not the same must be rewired or replaced. (If it's replaced - then the rear light harness under the rear bumper needs to be replaced or re-wired as well.) Some heater AC re-wiring under the hood is also needed. If your Berlinetta has cruise control you *may* need to rewire that as well since the berlinetta has the cruise buttons on the steering wheel.
This swap can be done - That car I did the work to is still driving today...... but my advise to you is to have a complete z28 parts car & a lot of patients before starting the job !
