well i got my car running last night and everything went ok except that the alternator isnt charging. i told my boss how i have it hooked up, and he said that i need a wire that actually powers the regulator, because the way i have it now, the gauge is just showing how many volts i have.
The car was a V6EFI, 89 firebird, i did the V8 swap. i put the old type alternator on it. theres a black wire coming in from the cab, that i have going into the alternator on the plug in, then the other wire on the plug-in, which is red, goes to the post on the back of the alt, and then a wire goes from that post to the battery. what am I missing? as i said, my boss said he doesnt think that I have a wire that turns the regulator on. any thoughts? I appreciate it very much.

man i am goin threw the came exact thing on my car, i just pulled out the 305 tbi and put in a carbed 350 and ripped out the comp. now wut i do know so far is that on our cars the regulator is inside the alternator. on my car the red wire on the plugin that u ran to the back of your alt runs to the positive on my starter. but its still not supplying power. do u have any idea wut the other wire on the plug it does that goes into the car? i was thinkin maybe the guage but i dunno. well good luck and if u have any luck figureing this out please help me out and let me know wut u know. thanks man and good luck
