Could the light switch be respnsible for all my problems???
OK, so about a week ago i posted about my tailight fuse blowing, and eventually causing a small fire under the dash. Well, i found the wire that was respnsible for the short, its the orange one going from the fuse box to the light switch. It was pretty much completely melted from the box to the switch. Now, the next question, how do i fix it? Can i just wrap the wire up real good with electrical tape, or should i replace it?
My second question is how do i get the switch out of the dash. Looking at it, i see no bolts holding it in, but it wont budge. I already got the ***, and that cover plate off, but i cant figure out to pull it out. I need to do so to repair/ replace the wire.
Last question is, once i get the switch out, should replace it? It still works the headlights just fine, but the orange wire is fryed all the way to the switch, so its gonna be difficult if not impossible to repair it.
thanks for everyones help so far, and please me help to finish this so i can drive my F-bod again!!!! Im sick of the Mustang!!!!

Wow, that is so crazy. I was just about to ask the same question about my car. I have a similar problem with my tail lights. They all work, but at the wrong times. My father said that it is probably something with the switch. Hopefully it is. Can somebody help us out here? I am about to just buy the whole set of wiring harnesses from a guy parting out his '83 TA. One question...since I have a 350 dropped in my car, and he still has the stock 305....did the wiring change? Can I still use the wires from his 305????? Thanks.

I have the same problem. Push in the button on the side of the switch and it comes right out (as described in a Haynes manual and elsewhere on this board). I found a broken wire in the harness near the connector and soldered it in place. Then I replaced the switch and turned it on, talilights and everything else worked great......until I went to put the switch in place. Poof!! the fuse for the taillights blew again. I think I have another broken wire between the switch and the fuse block, maybe it's the orange one? How and the world does a wire break in the dash?!
