V6 Tach in V8 Car

I have a 91 RS V8 that I drive and a 91 RS V6 wrecked parts car. I would like to use the tach from the V6 Car which shows a 6k rpm redline instead of my 5k redline on my car. Is the tach a separate component of the guage cluster. Is it programmed for V6 signal or does the computer actually control the tach reading. I hate to try and remove the face plate. I don't think I can get the needle off and back on without screwing up something.

They are different and will not work. You cannot just change the faceplate either, since the needle will read where the old faceplate used to.

There is a little computer board that performs all the algorithims for the tach. If you could find some way to put the V8 board on the V6 tach, it might work, but can't make no garuntees.

I thought the tach filter controlled the signal to the tach? They both have the same needle movment, scale, and electonics boards, are you sure this won't work? The tachs aren't computer controlled, but they do send a signal to the computer for the shift light actuation, from what I have read.

A v8 was swapped into my car, and I still use the v6 tach. It's not accurate but it will work... although that probably doesn't help you any. I like the way the v6 tach looks better than the v8 tachs that I've seen. Oh well.

Do a search. There is a component that you change on the V6 circuit board that will allow it to work correctly with a V8.
