82 Camare Fuse box Question
82 Camare Fuse box Question
Does anyone know what the 20amp fuse in the top right corner - labled C- H is? (It keeps blowing) I am rebuilding an 82 Pace Car and am in the process of tracking down several electrical problems. I started last summer with just the body - no engine or trans, and now have it together and running great.
Thanks

You will have to figure out what else is on that circuit, I bet it's your "lighter", thats what happen to me. Just pull out your lighter and then put in a new fuse. If that doesn't do it, find out what else is in the circiut.
Thanks, I never thought of the lighter,
that sounds right. I did figure out that the horn is on that circuit too and I had a short in the steering wheel.
Next question...is there a relay in the horn curcuit? It (the horn) still does not work and I can't find any wiring diagram for it. The fuse stays good now and I can hear a relay clicking when I pull the fuse and but it back in.
Thanks again,

The horn relay is under the dash next to the turn signal binker maker, should be white. You will have to take the bottom of the dash off (4 torx screws) to get to it. The relay is also the same type used in the center console for the hatch release relay so if your at a junk yard and you can't find a horn relay but a center console hatch release (black) relay it will plug in there too. Keep an eye on the fuse.
Found the relay, replaced it and the horn works great now.
Just have to get the windshield wipers working (dead motor) and I will have it ready for inspection and licensing.
Can't wait to start driving it.
Thanks again for the help!

Go to a junk yard and get that motor, be a lot cheaper and did you have to take the panel off like I said to get to it.
Yes, I am going to the junk yard right after work today, I have a wiper motor all picked out...saw it on Saturday when I was there getting a dimmer switch to fix my headlights.
I already had the panel off replacing the dimmer switch, so it was easy to find and replace the relay.
I did not know if I would need the motor for sure untill last night when I pulled the old one and tore it appart to see if I could fix it. It said NO!
I had to drop the stering colum to replace the dimmer switch, so while it was down I pulled the instrument pannel and compleatly went through - cleaned all the contacts and checked everything.
A little history on the car and what I have done so far:
I picked it up last summer from a guy who had pulled the engine and was going to rebuild it in his brother inlaws garage. He did not have the money so he decited to sell it. He must have had a fight with his brother inlaw because when I went to pick it up - he had thrown it (the engine and all accesories) away! So I have had to find and put everything together from the radiator to the transmission. (I know all the junk yards with in 50 miles really well!)
The car has not run sence 97 when it through a rod. I think who ever owned it back then used it for a dune buggy...there has been sand in everything!
For the engine I started with SB 307 out of my grandmothers 72 Nova...which now has a 350 in it. I know the 307 is not vary exciting, but it was free. It only had 40,000 miles on it, but I still compleatly rebuilt it...had a few mods done on the heads, had the crank shaft machined to true it up, put in a performance cam. Plus all the usual - rings, barings, seals, etc. My boss gave me a 4 barrell 650 Carter carburator he had replaced from his Chevy Luv he is rebuilding, and then I found a turbo 350 transmission.
The body is in almost perfect shape...no rust...one small dent but
I have had to replace almost everything in the interior...the seats, T Top, all plastic panels and the center console (from junk yards), carpet and door panels (new). Everything was rotted and falling apart from the California sun.
So it's allmost done! But I would not recommend to anyone doing it like I did....Start with a complete vehicle! Unless you have lots of time and lots of resorces. I have learned an lot from this forum and other Camaro web sites.
I have photos and will try and post a few this week end.
A new paint job is next summers project.

Yep you can't bet free when it comes to needing an engine. Have you painted your car yet or are you just going to drive it. Yeah I would never buy a new Camaro, they are so cheaply made compared to these old F-bodies. The new ones have plastic door panels and fenders and lots and lots of crap under the hood that just looks like a BIG after thought.
Got my wiper motor installed and it works but the controls are not working right. Not sure if it is in the switch on the steering colum or a relay in the circuit. I turn it on and nothing, turn it off and it makes one rotation with the blades moving up about 4 inches and then dropping back down. I will be doing some more troubleshooting tomorrow, but if any one has any suggestions it would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks
