Short, fire, problems, questions.
Ok i got up this afternoon and decided to run down to the local Record store and pick up some cd's. On my way my radio started to cut out going over some hard pot holes. I figured it was just the radio and the car wasn't haveing problems and kept on going. Then the car started to have problems, cutting out, missing ect. I then decided to get off the road and see what was going on. Unfortunatly before i could do that the engine dies and smoke comes out from the hood. I stop turn the ignition to off, pop the hood and low and behold there is a small electrical fire next to my battery. I got lucky and someone driveing by had a water bottle in their car. Splashed it got it put out and then proceeded to push the car off to the side with some help from a few guys that stopped and lent me their cell phone. Ok so i start looking at it now and this is what i see. comming off of the + terminal there is the main wire running down under the right bank to i assume the starter. Off of that line is another wire that runs down and is tied into 3 or so other wires that all disappear into a wireing harness. This is the wire that has burnt up. It happened because it shorted when it was hitting the body (prev. owner had pulled it out of its holder) and eventually shorted. We (my dad and i) got some wire and a new battery connection and got it rigged to get home but i was haveing major problems. It was still missing (not because it was looseing all power) and the lights and all dimmed and flickered quite abit. Tommorow will be spent trying to take apart the quick fix and get it all put together correctly but i was wondering what that wireing is (was sitting next to the battery and radiator behind the highbeam light on passengers side), what i need to look at for other damage (yes i have checked fuses already), and anything else you guys can think of.
