Fuel and volt gauge not working

Ok, the fuel gauge is pegged at the top and thte volt guage is pegged to the bottom. I have replaced the entire instrument panel and just the guages. No other gauges are involved. When it first started I could tap the gauges and get them to work now nothing. They went totally to junk after I replaced the instrument panel. I put the original back and nada. Nothing seems to fix the problem.

Has anybody heard of this type of problem before? Have any of you had this problem before? My next step is to trace the wires and look for a short.

Thanks,
Phil

I'm having the same problem with my fuel gauge. Gonna post a question bout it so maybe somebody will help. The gauge worked fine, then one day, it didn't work and was down in between empty and 1/4 tank. Then had a new fuel filter put on and it pegged to the top. So, i'm thinking maybe sending unit or wire is grounding out. Mechanic buddy says sending units rarely go out, and said check my wiring. Dunno if this helps you out, but may give you an idea or something.

I had the same problem with my car. It turned out to be a loose wire in the cargo area (to be more specific the harness that is in the left (driver's side) corner of the back). Try lifting the plastic and make sure all the wires are connected.

Not sure about the volts. Maybe a loose wire too.

Hope this helps,
Matt
