Why are my guages flickering?

I'll start out by saying that I know I have a weak battery. Is it that simple, though? I just rebuilt my alternator and installed a cap for my stereo. The voltage guage bounces and the lights flicker. All of them-headlights, guages, reading lights. Is a slipping belt a possibility? My car goes into storage in two weeks, so if it's just the battery, I'll leave it for now, but I'd still like to fix any problems ahead of time. Thanks.

Check for a loose wire. I would check ground wires first. Start at the alternator and then onto the battery

Swap in a known working alternator. See if that helps because it did for me.
