What is this thing behind passenger side fender?
On a 91 TransAm, when we connect the battery I can hear something running. It's a black plastic enclosed assembly, visible when you open the passenger side door, behind fender and below the antenna. Three wires coming out bottom (Green, Grey & White).
This is my son's car ... we just finished replacing heater core (my son did this), and I just finished rebuilding TPI fuel injection, fixing intake manifold oil leak and replacing valve stem seals, so we've had lots of connector's unplugged.
Anyone know what this unit is or does and what we may have done wrong ... possibly connecting something that never was connected? Haven't started engine yet.

Sounds like the power antenna motor.. If the cable from the antenna to the motor is broken.. the motor will just run. Since you said it's below the antenna, that usually the only thing under it.

FastElectrics ... you were right on with the
power antenna motor theory. Turns out someone had installed a permanent fixed mast antenna and left the power assembly there. Since car was apart for over a week I think my son thought it was supposed to be plugged in under dash when he was putting everything back together after replacing heater core. Everthing seems to be working fine ... thanks very much for your quick response.
