unknown Alternator problem--tim burgess please step in.

I recently swapped an lt1 in my camaro, I'm using the alternator from the LT1 witch is a 93. I'm using the connector from my old 89 alternator. I have installed the (4 gauge) wire of the alternator's back to the battery connector. the black(pluggin) connector has a red wire and also a green/wht wire. the red is bigger and I plugged it to my starter solenoid big bolt(where the battery wire end up). I plugged the green/wht wire to the ignition in the fuse box.

the problem is I'm testing the new battery with a volmeter, is tells me 13.3 witch is fine and when the car is running it tells me 14.6 for about 30 sec and then it's dropping the charge to 14.5 14.4 14.2 until it drains up the battery. it takes lot of time before the battery is dead but still it's like charging and dropping. I have tried also another alternator witch did the same thing.

please help !
thanks

Have you tested your battery? It sounds simple enough, but test the battery with the car not running, then put load on it(headlights, blower motor on hi) check voltage again, turn of the accessories, and test one more time. If there is a large disparity between 1 and 3rd reading, time for a battery chum if not, and you say you have tried multiple ALTS, check the 93 harness. I imagine you had a TBI, because my TPI has more wires in that connector. mike

14 volts would indicate that the alternator is working. Try disconnecting the battery after the engine has been started. If the alternator is functioning properly, the engine should continue to run at an idle. With the engine idling, turn all of the accessories on (head lights, A/C, radiator cooling fan(s), rear window defroster, etc.). The engine should continue to idle, and the system voltage should be >= 13 volts if the alternator is functioniing properly.

Well my alternator is chargind at 14.1 now, it this enough ??? I got a radiator fan that is always running and I got a big amplifier for my sound. the alternator becomes extremely hot, I would burn myself if I would leave my hand on it, is this also normal ???

14.1 is definitely enough.
